Breeding for the Main Agricultural Farming of Arabica Coffee

So far, the main Arabica coffee breeding programmes in Latin America have focused on selection of varieties adapted to intensive full-sun farming systems. Meanwhile, little attention has been paid specifically shade, which is characteristic agroforestry systems (AFS). Yet specialty sector currently expanding and seeking specific sensory qualities related exotic no programme exists create new for this type market. Two trials were set up: one full sun other under shade. F1 hybrids their parents (pure lines Ethiopian accessions) studied a factorial-crossing design measure tree volume, yield (3 years), bean size, NIRS signature final cupping score. Bean size score seemed be relatively unaffected by shading. Strong maternal heritability was observed size. In trials, produced “75–80%” more than “40–50%” male shade trial trial, respectively.
